Besties

These two…I can’t. Please tell me they’ll always be best friends. Will is walking (!!!) but he is still unsure of himself. He prefers to hold a hand to get where he wants to go. That hand typically is that of Lucy. She is so excited to help him it makes my heart ache. In this slice of adorableness (see video below), he’s donning her old cupcake-patterned sleep sack and sunglasses (second babies get all the hand-me-downs, gender norms be damned). I actually think walking in the sleep sack slows him down a bit, as he typically just tries to run and then falls flat on his face. I love you my little wild boy! And I love you my doting big girl big sis!

Ear tubes!

Young William finally got tubes in his ears today. We started super early, getting to the hospital around 5:15 AM. By 7:05 they had him back in surgery, and they were done by 7:30. He was a champ the whole time, despite some very sad, hangry moments prior to surgery. Thank goodness they let us come so early – making a baby fast is the WORST. Poor Will wanted to nurse so much from the moment I scooped him out of his bed and whisked him off to the hospital, but he wasn’t allowed to until after his surgery! Here are some pics documenting our day:

Arriving at the hospital, not quite sure what’s going on!

Hangry baby boy! Poor little people don’t understand why they can’t eat when they want to!

Distracting the hungry bear! God bless the child life specialist who brought us bubbles!

pre-surgery snugs

Groggy post-op snugs! What a trooper!

Although he was a little groggy and cranky, he had a great day after the surgery! Fingers crossed he sleeps well tonight! The surgeon said that he had a lot of fluid in those tiny ears. I’m very thankful we got this done, and that Whit could be home with us!

Celebrating William!

Will had a few pals over to help him celebrate his big day. Although he slept through the first half hour of the party, he woke up from his nap ready to rock and roll! We went with an airplane theme, and it seriously turned out so so adorable! I plan to leave th decorations up for a while – they’re too cute to take down!

Will and Lu both had a blast playing with their buds. Thankfully, it was a gorgeous afternoon so we could be outside. We had a sand box, a new play set from Grammie and Papa (which still needs the slide installed – we ran out of time!), and a ball pit from Oma and Opa. Bam! Instant fun times! Here are a bunch of adorable kid pics:

And Will had his first cake! He was unsure at first, but then he realized he really likes icing. A whole lot.

Overall, Lucy was a rock star friend and big sis, and Will partied like a total pro. I’m so proud of both of you sweet babies! Sweet memories were made today. We love you, little William!

Will is one!

 My dearest William,

You turned the big 0-1 today, buddy! I can’t believe it! I feel like it was just a few weeks ago that you entered this world, a little shell-shocked, not sure of your place and what the heck happened. You were clearly super cozy in my tummy, since you were 3 days late. You continue to be the BEST snuggler out in the world, too. When I pick you up from daycare, first you cry a little as soon as you see me (let it out, buddy – I know it’s been a long day), and then you settle in. Head on shoulder, tiny arms around my shoulders, pressing your whole body into mine so no one can take you or come between us. Even when I’m 80, I’m going to remember that feeling. It’s ingrained in a mama – the feel and weight of her sweet boy.

You are really a pretty cool little guy. Except when teething and fighting those darn ear infections that can’t seem to leave you alone (you’re getting tubes next week!), you are just a happy guy. Not much gets you down, and it is pretty easy to make you laugh. You love to be tickled, especially your toes and your neck. And when Lucy and I sing “Slippery Fish” and “Wheels on the Bus” to you, you move your hands to imitate our motions, laughing and squealing for more. And you’re just about to walk all by yourself. Well, you can. I’ve seen it. But you still prefer to hold a hand, or two. You can go so much faster that way. I don’t blame you one bit. You’re welcome to hold my hand as long as you want, sweet boy. And you do…you hold it the whole time I’m nursing you, every single time. It’s like our thing.

You are also a huge fan of anything hanging from the ceiling – fans, decorations, lights. Oh! And latches, door knobs, and handles. Anything you can manipulate – that’s your jam. You are fascinated by it all, and want someone to hold you up so you can touch it. Mental note: I need to get this boy some chimes!

We will celebrate you tomorrow with our friends and you will get to have your first cake! At this point your sister is more excited about it than you are, but I have a feeling you’ll come around once you taste it. I love you so much, my little man. So much that my heart aches. You are so perfectly mine. I can’t wait to watch you grow.

All my love,

Your mama

Morning Convos

My convo with Lucy this morning:

L: Mama, when I put those flowers by your bed, it was so you could sleep.

Me: Thank you so much, Lucy. It made my heart so happy!

L: Was it so happy it would just burst?

Me: Yes, yes it was!

L: My heart is bursting right now. Right this second! Because of the invisible string! It’s plugged right in to my heart and to yours!

Ahh, my sweet Lucy girl. You FEEL it all, girl. And you give me all the feels. I love you, baby! From my heart to yours, connected by the invisible string.

ACMs in Vegas!

What. A. Weekend. If I may, I’m going to diverge from our typical kid-centric posts to document Old Dominion’s ACM award-winning weekend! Don’t worry – I’ll still throw in some kid pics along the way!
This year, OD was nominated for TWO ACMs- New Group of the Year and Group of the Year! The first one was exciting enough, the second one totally unexpected and humbling. And even more amazingly, they won for New Group of the Year! I can’t even believe it! It’s a huge honor and such validation for how hard they have been working these years. Being able to be there with them to accept it was a big honor for us OD ladies, too! And per usual, I took a LOT of pics. See below!

First off, babies. Who watched the babies while mom and dad were off glamming it up? BAILEY. Bailey! You’re amazing. The best friend, babysitter, nurse, bedtime story reader, superhero supporter, and baby snuggler. ever. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We couldn’t do life without you. Seriously! So much love and thanks to you, my sweet friend.

^^Does Will look concerned that mama is gone? No, he doesn’t. Because Bailey. ❤️

On Saturday night, we had a great dinner with the whole crew. What makes these trips more fun than seeing the guys play, honestly, is getting to spend time with everyone. OD ladies, you are the bomb. And the guys are ok, too. 🙂

Sunday was the big day! We started with hair and makeup at 9:30 AM. We had a team of amazing hair and makeup artists from Leigh, Edwards, and Co in Nashville who set up shop in their suite in Vegas to help us ladies put the glam in glamour. Here are some pics of us getting ready!

Those ladies seriously knew what they were doing. I’ve never had someone spend so much time helping me obtain the perfect “cat eye” and “pink pop lip.” Gorgeous! And fun!

It was soon time to get in our dresses. Here we were prior to going to the carpet. Sha-zam! I’m in love with Whit’s shoes, by the way, and with my Caitie Sellers bangles!

Meanwhile, I was getting some pretty adorable kid pics. They had an awesomely fun day waiting for the red carpet to start by having their very own red carpet party!

Young William didn’t make it for the actual festivities, as he is an early-to-bed sleepyhead, but Lucy was watching the live stream with Bailey to try to see us! Here are our pics:

It was quick and a little overwhelming, but we did it! No one fell, tripped, or had a wardrobe malfunction. Success! Then we ladies could really relax and enjoy the show, which included a performance by OD! Yes, they won an ACM and got to perform! **proud wife moment**

 Looking good, Whit! 😍😍

Here are some additional pics of the after parties! We had so much fun, especially because I love hanging with these people! Flying home today, we all agreed it would be such a lonely gig if you were doing this without friends. And I have to give kudos to Whit. Amidst the award show craziness and chaos, they had to play four times yesterday at four separate locations. They really do put in the work! I don’t know how you do it, babe! Here’s to more good times ahead with so much love and thankfulness.

And I’ll leave you with this: Lucy, seeing her daddy perform on TV… ❤️

Easter 2016

Click the link below to watch the video of the egg hunt!

Around 7:00 PM last night, I remembered that tomorrow (today) was Easter. Oops! I ran to Target and put together 2 baskets, and made up some clues for the egg hunt. Following in my family’s tradition, we hide the basket somewhere and the kids go on a treasure hunt with clues to find it. It makes me SO excited every year to make the hunt! Lucy woke up this morning to one egg, filled with fruit snacks and a clue, laying on top of the clothes she had set out the night before. When we heard her quick little feet running up the steps, we knew she was EXCITED! And so the treasure hunt began. Next to each egg with a clue and fruit snacks was another egg for Will, filled with goldfish. He was super excited, too! The trail led them to find their baskets in the bath tub. Sweet times!

I didn’t get many pics from today, but I did snap a shot of Lucy’s sweet Easter outfit, put together by her of course. No Easter dress for this flashdance-inspired fashionista! That would be so cliche.😂

It was a rainy day, so we tried to get out for a walk but the rain made us turn around. We still had a great day, though! We are soaking in every minute of Whit being home with us!
